Silver Buttons;
What our readers are saying, big & little!
Why I wrote Silver Buttons?
I decided long ago, that no matter what life threw at me and my little family, we would find the joy and the light in all the uncertainty, in all the change, and in all the growth; even if we didn’t see it in the moment, even if it took time…
In my life, there will always be a deeper meaning to embracing the idea of change as I hold that idea close to me now, having moved through and out of years of feeling unsupported through change; growth and the ability to welcome it with grace and self-love is something I protect in my inner child. This is what I want for my children and yours. At all ages, we are always growing, and always encountering a new experience in life that we can decide to fall forward or backward, but it is a choice. On a larger scale, life can throw things at us that we were never quite prepared for, but that’s the thing… we don’t need to be as that is where fear and panic reside. Learning to see the blessing in every situation makes room for gratitude and new opportunities. The struggle to let go of something comes from a place of fear. It comes from the resistance to change, which is programmed in you from ages 0-7 by your parents (bless them). Once you free yourself from those limiting beliefs, you will open a world of opportunity for yourself, and once that happens, your life is fuller and will be for those around you too. “You might want to write that down.” - Adele Tevlin
Not everything is easy. Not everything is meant to be. Challenges become growth and the way we approach them becomes our ‘super power’… I firmly believe that if we learn this way of thinking from a very young age, we can better support our little ones to not only embrace change with ease but also believe in themselves, and in their ability to do whatever they want in life… the sky’s the limit.
Having both studied and experienced Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, my wish for children of all ages is that on a level of their understanding and adaptability, they too should also be able to use these tools in their little toolbox. Silver Buttons is about just that, written in a very comprehensive and relatable style for young readers. With a lot of love and a little guidance, we can teach our children that it’s okay to feel uncomfortable or afraid but that they can still do hard things. As a mom of three, and a woman approaching her mid-forties… this is also something I use in my everyday life and I am grateful for my blessings and opportunities.
“If you must doubt something, doubt your limits.” - Price Pritchett

Marcie
